Since 1998, Horn Factory has been bringing together some of the finest jazz musicians from across the East of England to create something extraordinary.

Eighteen musicians. Explosive brass. Driving rhythms. Electrifying solos. And a huge, unmistakable sound that has to be heard to be believed.

This is big band jazz with attitude.

Forget Everything You Think You Know About Big Band Jazz

We’re taking the big band sound in exciting new directions.

Our music combines powerhouse arrangements from the likes of Buddy Rich, Bob Mintzer, Gordon Goodwin and James Morrison with fresh interpretations of music by Pat Metheny, Chick Corea and Horace Silver.

It’s bold, contemporary and bursting with energy. Big band jazz, but perhaps not quite as you know it.

Plenty of memorable solos, and the ensemble work was something special, but when they all blew as one unit, it was powerful stuff.

The first thing one notices about a big band: entrances. These gals and guys were spot on, and seeing as some of the music was new to them, that is a real achievement. The second thing to notice was whether the band was having fun. There is this rule: the band has fun, we have fun. They had abundant fun.

Making Noise Since 1996

For more than 30 years, we’ve been sharing our passion for contemporary big band jazz with audiences across East Anglia and beyond.

From intimate jazz clubs to theatres and festivals, we’ve performed at venues including Colchester Arts Centre, Fleece Jazz, Ipswich Jazz and Blues Club and Jazz by the Waterfront.

Wherever we play, one thing never changes: we love making music together, and that energy is infectious.
